Senate Committee’s Discussions are “Not in the Public Domain”

Yves Herry, Chairman of the U of O Senate Committee on Teaching and Teaching Evaluation, recently responded to my e-mail report to committee members about last week’s motion to divulge information about a university granting program (e-mail below).

Compare with transparency of the committees of Canadian Parliament – link

Compare with Allan Rock’s statements (2009) that “Senate members have a right to their own image” and that video recording of Senate meetings would be in violation of that right – link to Senate video page.

Compare with corporate executive team meetings??

From: Senate Teaching & Teaching Evaluation Committee Chairman, Yves Herry
To: Committee Members
Date: January 23, 2012

Hello,

I would like to remind you that the deliberations and discussions that take place during meetings of the committee are not in the public domain.  Each member expects to be free to express his or her opinions without fear that they will be reported or interpreted in e-mails or by other means.  Some e-mails that were sent recently contravened this spirit, and were even sent to non-members of the committee.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Yves Herry

Bonjour,
